Send it back and it becomes filament.

A cracked shade is granulate that has been in a shape for a while. We take it back, grind it, re-extrude it and print it again, and you get 40 kronor a kilo against the next one. Freight is free inside the Nordics.

What actually happens to it

The hardware comes off — cap, rose, cord, module — and goes back into stock, because none of it wears out. The shade is granulated to 4 mm, dried for four hours, and blended at up to 30 % into new material. Above 30 % the melt flow drifts enough that a nine-hour print starts to go out of round near the top, so 30 % is where it sits.

Recycled content goes into KOL by preference — the opaque grade — because colour variation in the returns does not matter there and it is the one grade where nobody is looking at transmission. Some of it goes back into shades. We do not pretend to know which shade yours ends up in.

This is a real closed loop only because the material is a thermoplastic and the file is on disk. It is not a virtue we invented; it is a property of printing rather than moulding, and it would be strange not to use it.

Or we print you the same one again

Every shade we have ever made is a profile of profile measurements and a machine setting, and both are on disk with the order. If you break one in 2039 we can print the identical object — same contour, same flute phase, same layer height — for the cost of the material and the machine time.

That is not a promise a company with a mould can make after the mould is scrapped, and it is not a promise a company with a mould usually wants to make.
